Holiday Lights at Greenfield Village
This wonderful event is billed as one of the best attractions in Detroit. It is a 3-1/2 hour event inside Greenfield Village, led on a lantern lit path. You can listen to live performances by professional Christmas carolers, walk through historic Model T's and carriages dressed up, attend a bonfire, go ice skating, eat, shop and more. And best of all, Santa Claus and his reindeer will be there every weekend between now and Christmas! Each night closes with a firework finale and a sing-along. Who would not like that? Holiday Tree Spectacular at the Zoo
The front of the Detroit Zoo is alive at Christmastime! The zoo personnel adorn beautiful Christmas trees in different styles and themes that sponsors select. The zoo uses thousands of lights and ornaments to make each tree special and unique. The Tree Spectacular is located at the front of the zoo, running through early January. Crossroads Village
This attraction boasts 600,000 lights seen from a 40-minute train ride as well as the state's best moving light displays. This is an old fashioned village, with Santa visiting and demonstrating 1860s holiday preparations. The village is open for holiday tours, so you can see this antiquated area. Holiday dinners are also available in the Village at Mill Street. Crossroads Village is located in Flint, on Bray Road, just a short drive from Detroit. Wayne County Lightfest
Also known as "The Light Show," you drive through this light display. There are 39 animated displays with over 1 million lights. The trek is about 4 1/2 miles beginning in Weston (just south of I-96) and ending in Dearborn Heights. The cost is only $5 per car, and is worth every dollar. Snowfest
This is actually further north of Detroit, in the best Christmas town in the United States, Frankenmuth. Not only does Frankenmuth have the world's largest Christmas store, it has one of the best family Christmas extravaganzas. Snowfest holds one of the top snow sculpting competitions, with artists from all over the world competing. You can also compete in the collegiate or high school snow sculpting or the Apple pie eating contest. For family fun, you can watch the fireworks, skate, listen to the live entertainment, visit the petting zoo and children's games.
